Ardnahoe Distillery celebrated a very special birthday… The Laing family and distillery staff gathered at midnight on the 8th November in the warehouse at Ardnahoe Distillery to celebrate the oldest of the distillery’s spirit laid down in 2018 “ageing up” and becoming Single Malt Scotch Whisky. With great ceremony distillery manager Fraser Hughes opened one of the first casks filled – a bourbon barrel which had been duty-paid in anticipation of the event – and drew a sample using the traditional valinch.
Stewart Laing, company founder, had the privilege of being the first to try a dram of Ardnahoe Single Malt Scotch Whisky and described it as “wonderfully fruity, sweet and with distinct Islay peat notes”, before the rest of the party got a taste, followed by slices of a birthday cake baked specially for the occasion by the Ardnahoe Illicit Still café team. All agreed the whisky shows great promise and eagerly await the first bottling which is still some years away from being released. Stewart said “This moment is hugely significant for Ardnahoe, for our family business, for our wonderful team and for me personally having begun my whisky career in Islay at Bruichladdich Distillery in 1966. We’re all very proud to be creating a brand new Islay whisky and are excited about offering it to the wider world in the years ahead.”
